Mansfield Police Shoot Man with a Knife

PRESS RELEASE FROM MANSFIELD POLICE CHIEF, KEN COONTZ

On Sunday, December 24, the Mansfield Division of Police received a distress call from 187 South Mulberry Street Mansfield, Ohio.  During the frantic call, the caller stated that there was an intoxicated person slitting their wrist.  The caller further stated the suspect was still in possession of a knife, and that the suspect was trying to kill himself.  Shortly after arriving at the incident location, officers  confronted the suspect.  Officers attempted to use a taser that had no effect.  During the confrontation the suspect was shot.  Officers provided medical first aid, and the suspect was transported to Ohio Health where he is being treated for his injuries.  BCI & I will be conducting the investigation into the shooting.  The officers involved in the incident were placed on administrative leave per department policy.  The officers at the scene were  Officer D. Johnson, Officer C. Hamilton, Officer M. Boggs, and Officer C. Shepherd.
