Mansfield Dispatchers Obtained Emergency Medical Certification

On February 12th, 2018, the City of Mansfield’s Public Service Communications Center personnel will be placing months of training and preparation into use when they begin to provide medical information and pre-arrival instructions over the phone.

Mayor Tim Theaker and Chief Kenneth Coontz are pleased to announce that all of its Emergency Communications Center personnel have obtained certification as Emergency Medical Dispatchers. Dispatchers will quickly and properly determine the nature and priority of the call by narrowing down the caller’s type of medical or trauma situation by asking a series of short questions. Dispatchers will then dispatch the appropriate response resources, and provide the caller with lifesaving instructions to help treat the patient until the responding Emergency Medical Service personnel arrives. This will not only provide the caller with potentially life-saving instructions, but provide crucial pre-arrival information to responding Paramedics.

By enacting this program our Center is improving the standard of medical care for the citizens of Mansfield.
