Former Ontario GM Water Tower Taken Down Early Tuesday

The water tower, near the intersection of Lexington-Springmill road and State Route 309, which supplied water to the General Motors plant in Ontario, was taken down early Tuesday morning.

According to RichlandSource.com, it came down just after 6 am, which was about 90 minutes later than planned because workers ran into a few problems.  The tower was supposed to fall to the north in the grassy area, but instead fell northeast and the antenna, located on top of the water tower, brushed against power lines, which caused some sparks.

Mansfield engineer, Bob Bianchi, said, no damage was done. The city of Mansfield owns the water tower and had it built in 1956. The $73,000 contract is with a company out of the Cleveland area to demolish the water tower, which should take about 2 weeks to finish the project.
