The city of Shelby will ask voters in November to pass a 5-year, quarter-percent income tax levy. According to Richland Source, if passed, the measure would generate $500,000 annually for the fire department and the levy will increase the tax on earned household income by 0.25 percent. It’s estimated the levy would generate $500,000 annually for the fire department, said Chief Mike Thompson.
