Crawford County Man, Wanted On Probation Warrant, Arrested After Accident

On August 6, 2023 at 4:50 PM the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 telephone call in regards to a pick up truck that had crashed and rolled on Kiess Road South of the intersection of Kiess Road and SR 98. Members of the Liberty Township Volunteer Fire Department were dispatched along with Deputies. Prior to Deputies arrival the Sheriff’s Office was contacted again about the crash and it was reported that the driver exited the pick up truck and was walking away from the crash scene. By standers attempted to keep the driver on scene but the driver continued to walk away.

Upon Deputies arrival the driver was seen near the Riley Reservoir and a foot pursuit ensured. The driver was appended in a wooded area just West of the reservoir and he was transported by Life First Ambulance Service to the Bucyrus Community Hospital for minor injuries and released. The driver of the pick up truck was identified as thirty two year old Jesse D. Baird and preliminary investigation indicates that he was driving a black in color 2004 Dodge 2500 North on Kiess Road South of SR 98. The Dodge traveled off the East side of the roadway and overcorrected and traveled off the West side of the roadway where the vehicle struck a ditch and several tree’s and rolled onto it’s drivers side. No other occupants were in the vehicle during the time of the crash and Hensley’s Towing removed the vehicle from the scene.

Once medically cleared Mr. Baird was arrested for Probation Violation and transported to the Crawford County Jail. The crash remains under investigation and once the investigation is complete this matter will be forwarded to the Crawford Count Prosecutor’s Office for referral for criminal charges.
