The building at 52 East Main Street in Shelby is considered a total loss, due to an early Thursday morning fire.

Mike Thompson, Shelby Fire Chief, said, the call came in between 1 am – 2 am and credits quick work by firefighters that it did not spread. Thompson told WMAN, because the buildings are so close together, the firefighters saved most of a city block.

A hair salon and two upstairs apartments were located in the building.  An investigation is underway on how the fire started. A building to the east sustained minor damage, while the Eagles Club has some minor roof and water damage. Multiple other fire departments provided mutual aid at the scene. No injuries were reported.
