A house in Shelby is considered to be a total loss, following an early morning fire on Thursday.

Fire Chief, Mike Thompson, told WMAN news, they got the call just before 2:30 am and were on scene for roughly 3 hours. The residence was located on East Whitney Avenue and was difficult to reach, because it is in an Alley. Securing water was a problem because of a long distance to a fire hydrant.

Flames were coming out of the top of the house, as fire crews responded to the scene. The occupant of home was able to escape and no injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is being investigated.
