I first took a seat behind a WMAN microphone in 1982. For seven years, I worked the evening shift. That included engineering Cleveland Indians games, and actually DJ'ing real records for several years. We even had an evening Marketplace Program for several years that I hosted. Since 1990 I hosted the daily talk show "AM MANSFIELD", for over 17 years, The Rusty Cates Show,in the afternoon for about a year. And now, since June 14, 2010, I am getting up early to help you start your day with "Rusty Cates and The WMAN Morning News"
When not at the radio station, I am passionate about singing. I am a member of the Barbershop Harmony Society and sing with TheGreater Columbus Chapter "The Alliance" Chorus. In Mansfield, I sing with a Do Wop Quartet, known as "The Moonlighters" I am a regular member of Trinity United Methodist Church. I am a busy guy, but not to busy to follow the Tribe, Buckeyes, Browns and Cavs. Mansfield is my home, and I enjoy being a part of our Mansfield Radio Station - WMAN.

Hey! Look the Cleveland Browns now have Huge Helmets that shoot fire and smoke during the pregame player introductions! It is pretty cool! I took a few photos during the preseason game with the Detroit Lions.
I was asked to help announce the races at the White Lightning Run, Saturday, August 10. Pre 1973 vehicles race around a 1 mile dirt track, making 9 stops for moonshine alog the way. There was also a car show, food, beverages, and bands in the evening. You don't want to miss next year's "Shine Run". Check out some of the fun photos.
This was a so much fun.
It was even more official with a referee in charge.

I had a discussion this morning on WMAN dealing with Traffic enforcement cameras: Most people don't like them. Listeners pointed out several intersections in Mansfield where "some type" of cameras have been installed. (Trimble near 30, Hanley Road at 13) Why would cameras be installed when they are on the brink of being made illegal? (See Ohio HB 69 below) One caller suggested the cameras are motion detectors, to trigger the traffic light when a vehicle is seen.
The Ohio House passed HB 69 on June 27, 2013 to outlaw traffic enforcement cameras.... local Rep. Mark Romanchuck voted "Nay". The State Senate will consider the bill in September. Here is the language of House Bill 69.
To enact section 4511.095 and to repeal sections 4511.092 and 4511.094 of the Revised Code to prohibit the use of traffic law photo-monitoring devices by municipal corporations, counties, townships, and the State Highway Patrol to detect traffic signal light and speed limit violations, except in certain circumstances.
The 3 main characters in the Renaissance Theater Summer Musical sat in on the WMAN morning show, Wednesday morning from 8-9am. Les Miserables will be performed August 2,3, 9 and 10 at 8pm and August 11 at 3pm.
