I first took a seat behind a WMAN microphone in 1982. For seven years, I worked the evening shift. That included engineering Cleveland Indians games, and actually DJ'ing real records for several years. We even had an evening Marketplace Program for several years that I hosted. Since 1990 I hosted the daily talk show "AM MANSFIELD", for over 17 years, The Rusty Cates Show,in the afternoon for about a year. And now, since June 14, 2010, I am getting up early to help you start your day with "Rusty Cates and The WMAN Morning News"
When not at the radio station, I am passionate about singing. I am a member of the Barbershop Harmony Society and sing with TheGreater Columbus Chapter "The Alliance" Chorus. In Mansfield, I sing with a Do Wop Quartet, known as "The Moonlighters" I am a regular member of Trinity United Methodist Church. I am a busy guy, but not to busy to follow the Tribe, Buckeyes, Browns and Cavs. Mansfield is my home, and I enjoy being a part of our Mansfield Radio Station - WMAN.

Newly crowned Miss Ohio, Heather Wells, performed at the Ohio State Fair, and rode in the daily Ohio State Fair Parade. (sunday, July 28, 2013) Heather was kind enough to conduct an interview and pose for a quick photo with me.
Media Day with Indy Car stars. Graham Rahal and Simona De Silvestra. Rusty Cates was there ready to race Go Carts. Click below to see the pics!
I have been told , on several occasions that I look like the Pastor at The First Congregational Church, Bruce Haapalainen. (right, with blue shirt and tie) I met Bruce on Sunday, when the Moonlighters Quartet sang for the 10:30am church service. I can see some similarities. Maybe more like brothers than twins! We have the same awesome physical build, and lively sense of humor.
YES! As long as he doesn't have to go too far.
The Wicked Broadway Musical, hot air balloon should be spectacular. These "Balloon Glow" shots are from 3 weeks ago in Chagrin Falls. Even the truck and trailer are defying gravity!
My daughter, Natalie Cates, was married on Sunday, June 23, 2013. It was a small family wedding. Very Nice. Lots of Fun! Check out the video clips I shot. About 15 seconds each. Congratulations to the new Mr. and Mrs. Kevin Dunckel.
After reviewing the Mis Ohio Program now for a week, the finals are tonight, so here is my top 5.....
* if someone said they'd give me a hundred bucks if I picked the winner, I'd go with this Heather.
(Editor) 6/24/13 Rusty made his Miss Ohio prediction prior to the finals and he was correct.
Miss Mansfield and Sherwood Forest (England) visited the WMAN studios on Wednesday morning. Alice is visiting the Mansfield, Ohio area during our pageant week. She is 20 year old, Alice Kurylo, a dancer. I couldn't get her to dance in the studio, but she looked nice seated behind the studio microphone. Alice modeled fashions on Tuesday with the other Miss Ohio contestants at the Renaissance Theatre. Alice and her chaparone, Tricia Mapletoft will spend the week with Ed Olsen and his wife Pat. Her visit marks the first time since 2000 that Miss Mansfield England flew across the pond for stay.
